Natural History - All Ages Welcome

Using natural materials, we will make crafts that foster artistic creativity and a sense of connection to the natural environment. We'll imagine what roles our found materials played in nature before they were collected, and relatedly, some interpretations will be discussed. This program is geared toward children, but participants of all ages are welcome. BCPOS will provide all supplies.

Minimum Participants: 5
Maximum Participants: 15

I enjoy learning and playing in the wonders of our natural environment. Topics that interest me are: wildlife, pollinators, plants, wildflowers, bird watching, hiking and natural history.

I grew up in Boulder County, and have always loved the landscape here, from the plains to the high peaks. One of my parents was a scientist and the other a visual artist, and both perspectives have influenced my life; I want to be able to understand how things work, and also to appreciate their beauty. I think one of the most important challenges for humankind right now is to understand our place in the ecosystem, and learn to live like the rest of the natural world is our kin.

Having grown up in Boulder, much of my youth was spent recreating on the many trails and acres of open space that characterize our community. I then lived in Vermont for eight years where I studied Sociology and Parks and Recreation at the University of Vermont, and worked in outdoor recreation, community mental health, and biodynamic farming. Upon returning to Colorado, I've worked in natural resources at the city, county, and federal level, and I'm so happy to be back working at BCPOS again!
